Waterfalls
Saturdayās Embrace
Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park
Kakabeka Falls, Ontario
I spent a weekend in Thunder Bay, Ontario with a focus on fully experiencing the hospitality of Canada and I made a stop back to Kakabeka Falls on this Saturday evening. The smell of campfire in the nearby campground set the stage for how this evening at the Niagara of the North. The park was sparse and the sounds of the power of the Kaministiquia River was displaying its power after some heavy rainfall a few days prior. The sun had set leaving its glow in the sky and I decided to walk towards on of the overlook platforms and I was just amazed on how the waterfall color flowed in harmony with the sunset sky.
Kakabeka Falls holds a special place in my heart. This was the first place that I visited when I visited Canada in 2023. I truly cherish this moment and spent hours here. I look back to this image and Iām reliving this evening experience all over again.
Stone Bath
Amnicon Falls State Park
South Range, Wisconsin
About a week after majority of the winter ice melt began, I was in the hunt for waterfalls that were mostly clear of any snow and ice. Amnicon Falls was still under a good amount of ice but this section was relatively clear. The river was just flowing immensely and I had noticed the rock formation composed in a certain way displayed a rock taking a fresh bath in the Amnicon River.
My artistic vision was on overdrive here and this took a few images to dial in the settings and compose it right. My patience definitely paid off here.
Tahquamenon Dream
Tahquamenon Falls State Park
McMillian, Michigan
I ventured to a lot of areas in one day and I ended off the day making my last run to Tahquamenon Falls State Park.
As I parked my car, I made haste to the waterfalls wondering where it was since Iāve never been here before. I asked a few people which way it was to get to the falls and they guided me to the right direction.
Soon after, I heard them from a distance. I got closer to the sounds and once I arrived, I was just floored with the sunset creating this beautiful framing of the foreground leaves that were highlighted.
This scene felt like God set the stage for me to capture this moment because this was just such an experience for me It was truly a unique viewing of the falls under this lighting conditions that iāve never seen captured before. I was just speechless by this scene and I knew that the light was fading fast I had to capture this raw natural beauty. This was just an amazing experience in person.
Iām truly overall grateful for this opportunity to capture this iconic waterfall along the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.
Spring Flow
Amity Creek
Duluth, Minnesota
Here in Duluth, certain parts of Skyline Parkway are closed off during the winter months. This section, is one of them.
Normally, I try to get here before they close this road for the season but I missed out and had to wait this one out. In hindsight, it worked out for the better.
The weekend they had opened this road back up, I managed to drive up feeling super excited and also that its waterfalls season. Most of the ice melted but the trails were still muddy and slick. I couldn't wait to get up here and to view this waterfall once again.
The Amity creek was just flowing downstream and I was just excited about it. I had to remain calm and find where I wanted to compose and capture this local gem of a waterfall. The evening sun was fading away quickly behind the nearby trees and I was short on daylight time.
After capturing this image, I just took this in. I completely had this area to myself and the ambient sound of rushing water was just a zen to me.
Canyon of Colors
Canyon Falls Roadside Park
LāAnse, Michigan
During my second trip the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I was suggested to check out Canyon Falls. I had car camped here the night before not really knowing what to make of it at the time. I came back here later on during the day to hike through the trails to experience the gorge and its vibrant colors. I was completely blown away by this beautiful waterfall and all I could think was āI slept here the night before?!ā.
Upon arriving at this waterfall, I was scoping out a unique framing to highlight this magnificent array of foliage and rock. I spent well over an hour here just taking this all in. The full peak of the autumn leaves gave this scene a major contrast of colors. There was a subtle soft light shining down on this scene from an overcast day. It definitely set the tone for this moment that I was soaking up.
Golden Escape
Amity Creek
Duluth, Minnesota
Spring was definitely in the air in Duluth as the waterfalls and rivers are waken up and flowing strongly. I stopped at Amity Creek along Seven Bridges Road for this true gem of a scene. The evening light was at the golden hour and it was peering through the tree line emitting its warm glow downstream here.
Many locals were out enjoying the scenery while I was capturing this golden beauty. It was definitely a good way to end the work day.
Into the Kam
Kakabeka Falls Provincial Park
Kakabeka Falls , Ontario
Before we set off to stop at Tim Hortons and start the morning, I saw this view of Kakabeka Falls while driving. I needed to stop asap to get a second look at this.
The morning light was just perfect with this perspective, highlighting the powerful mist flowing off the falls. It was raging in perfect harmony. I walked across the bridge, taking my time to capture this and being very meticulous about this perspective looking down the Kaministiquia River.
Maybe it was because I had coffee on the brain at the time, but all I saw was nature pouring its natural beauty into this giant cup of moss and rock gorge. It was stunning to sit back and enjoy this sight.
Urban Escape
Minnehaha Falls
Minneapolis, Minnesota
On an impulsive trip down to the cities, we made a stop here at Minnehaha Falls. The scenery to me reminded me of Central Park in NYC mixed with Munising Falls along Pictured Rocks.
The sounds of music and nature are all in harmony and the evening skies added to this scenery. I waited for the right moment to capture this composition as the light was changing.
To think, this is in a city where tall buildings emerge. A metropolis that truly has lots to offer. Truly......stunning.
Artist Stream
Chippewa Falls
Batchawana Bay, Ontario
Inspiration, raw natural beauty, and fond memories Iām left with here in Chippewa Falls. Along the halfway point of the Trans-Canada Highway lies this scenic area where many folks gather from all walks of life.
As the water was flowing, it put me in a state of peace. Signs of autumn were lingering in the air and the crisp breeze coming off Lake Superior was just pleasant.
While standing here taking this view in, I could truly understand why A.Y. Jackson created such a marvelous piece of art inspired by this location.
The Tribute
Sand River Falls (Lake Superior Provincial Park)
Ontario, Canada
Along our morning hike we stopped here in Sand River Falls to explore the natural beauty in Algoma Country. We found many new Group of Seven monuments along our way. This was my way of paying homage to the many painters of this location with a unique perspective.
The larger falls upstream I briefly took a glance at but I didn't mange to hike that far up. I will save that for another trip when I make my way back down to this side of the big lake.
